Helios and the Sun

Traditional piece done for my Classical Greek Mythology class, meant to portray my perception of the Sun God, Helios. A proud figure of power revered by the Greeks, Helios controlled the rise and fall of the sun every day, soaring through the sky with his 2 horses and golden chariot ablaze-- he had a sun (see what I did there? xD) named Icarus, who unfortunately fell to his death when he lost control of his father's horses and got struck down by none other than Helios himself in order to stop the rampage.

I started this piece by getting the pencil drawing down, then going over that with black micron pens to finalize the linework. Then I added color using watercolor, and added the black background with stars using gouache. 

Completed on Canson XL Recycled Bristol Board, using micron pens, Artist's Loft watercolors, and gouache.
